TSI Incorporated Mechanical Engineer III - Continuation in Shoreview, Minnesota

Job Summary The primary role of the Mechanical Engineer III will be to give support and technical leadership in the TSI Engineering Department. A person in this position will need to solve quality problems, address obsolescence issues, perform product enhancements/add new features and create specials for specific customer applications. This position will have contact with new product development, service, manufacturing, sales, marketing and customers. The engineer must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a focused and highly disciplined approach to engineering, and independently solve complex problems associated with the design, use, and manufacturing of products. Job Responsibilities * Independently solve complex issues working with other engineering disciplines and other departments as needed. * The scope of the work will consist of design, modification, experimentation, and analysis that is complex in nature. * Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness. * Estimate task duration and resource requirements for project schedules. * Review solutions with other engineers and project managers when necessary. * Develop solutions to abstract problems with complex interactions * Responsible for providing work direction to individuals or a group of engineers with respect to the project or tasks in order to meet project deadlines. * May serve as technical lead on continuation projects and provide guidance to other engineers. * Provide feedback to NPD engineers for improved reliability of new products. * Design and i mplement system level tests to validate solutions. * Responsible to bring a higher level of engineering skills to the engineering team. * Work cross functionally with manufacturing, marketing and sales to complete projects and implement engineering changes. * Responsible for providing strong documentation and specifications for solutions offered. * Work cooperatively with other departments to develop best practices. * Participation on the Mechanical Engineering Steering Committee may be expected. * Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor. * Execute practical engineering processes such as BOMs and ECOs. * Train manufacturing engineers, technicians on new manufacturing processes * Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education Required * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering * If a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is held, substitutions may be made for the Bachelor's degree. Desired * Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Experience Required * Minimum of 5 years of product development mechanical engineering experience. * Experience in development or use of measurement instruments. * Demonstrated experience of working cross functionally with other departments. * Product development experience on a project from the concept phase through the launch phase with leadership over the mechanical portion. Desired * CAD design experience (Pro-E used at TSI) is highly desired * Some background/training in particle measurements is highly desired * Experience leading and mentoring other engineers * Application engineering experience * Project management experience Knowledge of: Required * Mechanical engineering fundamentals * Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) * Experimental methods * Understanding of data acquisition * Failure mode Effects Analysis, FMEA * Design of Experiments, DOE * Structured Problem Solving, 8-D, A3 or equivalent * Discreet manufacturing methods * Understanding of the calibration process, statistics, process control, and uncertainty analysis.
